College: Northeastern University
Project Name: NU goes Green
Presentation: Northeastern University Project Presentation [pdf]
The goal of this project is to reduce the hydrologic impact of Northeastern University on the local ecology of Boston, Massachusetts and the Boston Harbor watershed. To achieve this goal the project includes incorporating "Green Building Methods" intended to reduce urban runoff. Methods include: the re-grading of walkways and existing landscape, replacement of impervious paving systems with permeable pavers, introduction of vegetated swales and rain gardens, and the installation of green roofs.
We are greening a high density impervious campus.
Our project addresses urban runoff. It will reduce polluted runoff through increasing infiltration, and through doing so will reduce needed energy to control runoff. Ultimately, it will lessen our campus's contributions to global warming.
